About Bovec & Soča Valley
Nature that takes your breath away
The Soča Valley is one of the most stunning parts of Slovenia. With its crystal-clear, turquoise river winding through alpine peaks, lush forests and meadows, it offers endless opportunities for hiking, cycling, water sports, and peaceful moments in nature.
Bovec lies at the heart of this landscape, nestled at the very border of the Triglav National Park.
A land shaped by history
Bovec has a rich past – from Roman remains and the dramatic battles of WWI's Isonzo Front, to today’s lively village with a strong local identity. The area is dotted with fortresses, museums and mountain trails that still echo the stories of the past.
Fun facts and unique features
The Soča River is one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe – and the only one where the story of indigenous marble trout enravels.
Scenes from The Chronicles of Narnia, The Wheel of Time and other commercial ads were filmed in the Bovec area.
Despite the alpine setting, the region is home to over 100 edible mushroom species, a rarity for mountainous areas.
